An antidote to languishing - Flow

Sharing a terrific article from Adam Grant (a thinker and author I love, see my piece on his book “Give and Take”) in the NYT last week: “There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing”.

In this he talks about what he means by “Languishing”, then goes on to three “antidotes”, one of which is to to find “Flow”:

Flow is that elusive state of absorption in a meaningful challenge or a momentary bond, where your sense of time, place and self melts away

He goes on to talk about a) Giving yourself uninterrupted time, as well as b) Focus on a small goal.

Just the other day I wrote: “Give yourself time to think” and taking time to think, creating and making space for yourself, these are recurring themes for me in my daily writing. I also love the concept of Flow and come back again and again to that topic, as well as to variations on the theme of time.

Perhaps for some of my readers then can find Flow, “that elusive state of absorption” in first reading that NYT article, then in browsing my library for themes and thoughts around the three “antidotes. With nearly 1300…
