Do it now, Carpe Diem — Tom McCallum
Carpe Diem is one of my favourite phrases, famously said by Robin Williams’ character in one of my very favourite films, Dead Poets Society, one I highlighted in an old “Movies with Meaning” post alongside Braveheart and Michael Clayton.
Linked to that is the phrase “ No Ordinary Moments “, an anchor for life from my friend Morgan Da Costa.
If you knew in advance that your life was going to be put on hold for a time at a set date, what are the things you would do now, Carpe Diem, seize the day?
In my case, next week I am going for routine but significant abdominal surgery (from which my prognosis is a full recovery, which is a blessing), so yesterday I went for a nice meal (outside, don’t want to risk catching Covid and surgery being postponed!), then this morning I went for a four-hour bike ride, as I won’t be riding for a while (probably at least two months) so as to let the abdominal muscles heal.
Why share this? As a way to have you consider imagining such a constraint on yourself. If that was your reality, what would you do now rather than put off to some future date? In my case it was as simple as a meal and a bike ride, in your case what would it be.
