Start the year by taking the time to think

“The Thinker” ~ Rodin

Earlier this week I spoke with a friend and colleague who had found real value in slowing right down over the holiday season. In particular, they found the week between Christmas and New Year, where there were fewer personal and family commitments and at the same time, they had “no emails, no zooms, no meetings” to have created space for them to think, particularly about their business in 2022. However, that was them personally as a small business owner, but what about those of us with a leadership or management team in our business?

My encouragement is for you to not simply dive back into the “busy work” of the day-to-day, but before you do that, to book time this month for your whole leadership or management time, time to think.

The start of the year is a great time to get your team together. As I wrote about yesterday, it is valuable to set one’s own Context to start the year. For a business, it is therefore of great value to get the team together and agree on and align behind the Context to begin the year for that team and the business overall.

Setting a context gives you a lens through which to view all your regular business activities, as well as that it makes it easy to choose three focal points for your business out of the many goals, projects, tasks.
