“tout le malheur des hommes vient de ne savoir pas se tenir en repos dans une chambre”

“All of humanity’s misfortunes stem from man’s inability to stay at rest in a room”

From Pensées by Blaise Pascal, written in the 1600s

I lived so much of my life filling it with things to do all the time. It has taken me some years to learn to positively look forward to having nothing to do.

So, with a smile, today I will spend this Sunday doing…nothing.

Well, nearly nothing. I’ll read Nick Parker’s new book: “On Reading — provocations. consolations and suggestions for reading more freely” in advance of him coming on the first #WhatComesNextLive show of the year on Tuesday 5th January 5pm UK. Do join us live here or catch up later by watching at the same link or follow the links and subscribe to the podcast at any of the usual places you find your pods.

Other than that, hmm. I’ll wash down my bike and mount it on the trainer as it will now be indoors all winter. After that, I may go for yet another long walk.

Beyond that.. nothing. The pleasures of a simple Sunday.
