Trust is greater than fear. Fear is the Mind-Killer.

Today, I repost at the base of today’s post, in full, my post “Fear is the Mind-Killer” from back two years ago in August 2019, a post I began with:

“In my mid-teens, I read Dune by Frank Herbert, to this day one of my favourite books. It is one of those books that is regarded as “unfilmable”.”

Today my excitement as a movie fan bubbles over, as Dune has indeed been made into a movie worthy of the epic, sweeping majesty of the story. Initial reviews are in, Dune is “Blockbuster cinema at its dizzying, dazzling best” ~ The Guardian, or, as someone tweeted, “In Villeneuve we Trust”, a reference to the Director, Denis Villeneuve, auteur of one of my all-time favourite movies, Arrival (see my post “Movies with Meaning — The Meaning of Time”).

The reference to “Fear is the Mind-Killer” is to a key litany from Dune, one that resonates for me often when I see in myself or others Fear rather than Trust. More on that topic is abundantly available in searching the archive of well over 1400 posts on #OpenLeadership, but the repost below also includes my favourite passage on the topic: “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson.

Before that, I leave you with the trailer for Dune. Epic:
